Beatitudes
- “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
**New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (La Habra, CA: The Lockman Foundation, 1995),
Mt 5:3
“poor in spirit”: Humility of realizing our own spiritual disconnect : That we need what Jesus is offering grace and Salvation. As Christians we need to be humble as we are no better than those that are sinners.
How would we be without the offering of Salvation? Who would we become if we did not know God?
2. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Mt 5:4.
This means that we mourn because of our own sin with great regret. Though forgiveness and Salvation is very comforting to know where ultimately we will land.
3. “Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
Mt 5:5.
5. gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Ga 5:23.
The gentle does not mean weak. We are given strength to handle things beyond our control. Self Control empowered by the Holy Spirit. Wow what a “extra” for joining Jesus. If this was a club they would make you buy a 100 books to read and give you expensive lessons. Prayer and Reading gives us this …fasting.
4. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Mt 5:6
When we are developing our relationship with Christ we do develop a hunger for Gods righteousness. We want to know such peace. We do not thirst like the World to Show how self righteous we are and how we have the power, NO we . This is a Journey. We want to know God’s love.
5. 7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
Mt 5:7.
It is our duty to show mercy. God does this for us by giving us Salvation and Forgiveness. We must show Mercy to other people. We must not let this world harden our hearts. We must not let what others do to us harden us. We must always work to show mercy to others.
6. 8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Mt 5:8.
Proverbs 23:7 says, “As [a man] thinks in his heart, so is he.”
Hebrew meaning of heart was the intellect, emotions, desires, physical, your whole being.. This is what this verse is speaking of when God wants your heart. When we give him our heart “whole being” he can make it pure.
7. 9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Mt 5:9.
Matthew 5:44-45
Love your enemies
Pray for those that Prosecute you
8. 10 “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Mt 5:10.
“Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. 12 “Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Mt 5:11–12.
